University of Portland Orchestra and Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland in Concert, April 20 & 23

University of Portland Orchestra will be joined by the Choral Arts Ensemble of Portland for two performances in a joint concert entitled “Light out of Shadow.” The two performances will be held on Saturday, April 20 in All Saints Parish, 3847 NE Glisan and Tuesday, April 23 in Buckley Center Auditorium on campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd., Both performances are at 7:30 p.m.

University of Portland to present Bat Boy: The Musical, April 12-14, 18-20 in Mago Hunt Center Theater

University of Portland’s Performing and Fine Arts department will present Bat Boy: The Musical, based on a story from the satirical tabloid The Weekly World News, on April 12-14 and 18-20, at 7:30 p.m. (2 p.m. Sunday), in Mago Hunt Center Theater on the University campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. Tickets will be available starting Monday, April 1.

A hilarious and touching musical production, which the New York Times calls “a jaggedly imaginative mix of skewering humor and energetic glee,” Bat Boy tells the story of a half-boy, half-bat found in a cave and taken in by the local vet, whose wife and daughter educate Bat Boy about the ways of civil society. Will a terrible secret doom the town that both loves and fears him, or will there be a happy ending? Events in this play may not be suitable for children.

Third Annual University Wind Symphony and Friends concert slated for Wednesday, April 24, at Vancouver?s Heritage High School

The University of Portland’s third annual Wind Symphony and Friends Concert will take place on Wednesday, April 24, at 7:30 p.m., at Heritage High School in Vancouver, Washington (7825 NE 130th Ave.). The concert is free and open to the public.

This year’s guest ensemble is from Heritage High School and includes new and classic works for wind band, including Herbert L. Clark’s trumpet solo Bride of the Waves, performed by senior Tim Blaydon with the UP Wind Symphony.

University Singers and Women?s Chorale to present free concert on Sunday, April 21

University of Portland will present two of its premier musical groups, the University Singers and Women’s Chorale, in a concert on Sunday, April 21, at 3 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium on the University campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. The performance is free and open to the public.

During the concert, the University Singers will reprise musical numbers from their recent tour of the Puget Sound area.

University of Portland’s Chamber Ensembles will present a concert on Tuesday, April 16, at 6 p.m., in Mago Hunt Center recital hall on the University campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. The concert is free and open to the public.

The concert will feature the performing and fine arts department’s finest instrumentalists performing a wide variety of repertoire. Groups include the Saxophone Quartet, String Quartet, Woodwind Quintet, Brass Quintet, and Jazz Combos.

World renowned pianist John Wustman to join University of Portland professor Nicole Leupp Hanig in performing Schubert?s ?Winterreise,? 3 p.m., Sunday April 7

Acclaimed pianist John Wustman will join University of Portland faculty member Nicole Leupp Hanig in performing Franz Schubert’s masterwork song cycle, “Winterreise” (Winter’s Journey). The concert, set for 3 p.m. Sunday, April 7 in Buckley Center Auditorium on campus, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd., is free and open to the public.

First published in 1828, this set of 24 songs with text by German Romantic poet Wilhelm Müller exemplifies Schubert’s compositional and interpretive power. The concert is co-sponsored by the University’s Performing and Fine Arts department and the McNerney-Hanson Endowed Chair in Ethics.

The University of Portland’s performing and fine arts department will present Reginald Rose’s “Twelve Angry Jurors,” adapted by Sherman L. Sergel, Feb. 27-March 3, at 7:30 p.m. (2 p.m. Sunday), at Mago Hunt Center Theater on the University campus at 5000 N. Willamette Blvd.

The University of Portland Wind Symphony and Orchestra will present a diverse musical program featuring classical favorites and premiere performances on Sunday, March 3, at 5 p.m., in Buckley Center Auditorium on the University campus at 5000 N. Willamette Blvd. The concert is free and open to the public.

The Wind Symphony will open the concert with “Heart, Healing and Hope,” a special program dedicated to health care organizations and the service they provide. Representatives from the Oregon Trail Chapter of the American Red Cross and the Autism Society of Oregon will assist in the festivities. Musical selections will include a world premiere by internationally acclaimed composer Martin Ellerby, and an American premiere by Daisuke Shimizu.
